Incofin cvso was established in 1992 as a cooperative company with social objectives. As a social investment company, Incofin invests in microfinance institutions in developing countries. These institutions provide so-called “microloans” to starting self-employed people and small businesses so that they may have a chance to improve their living conditions. Thanks to these loans, enterprising people who are not able to access the traditional banks locally due to lack of collateral or a steady income are nevertheless able to expand their business and break the vicious cycle of poverty. Incofin thus contributes to sustainable socio-economic self-development in the global South.
Today estimates show that around 150 million people have access to microcredit via the more than 10,000 MFIs active throughout the world.
